Design Portfolio - Alyssa Lindo
Fall 2025 Extended Reality

Welcome to my semester Portfolio! This collection showcases my projects and creative growth throughout the course.

Project: Environment Design - Inner Garden
Briefing: This assignment focused on creating an immersive 3D environment using OpenBrush in virtual reality. The goal was to experiment with scale, lighting, and atmosphere to evoke emotion and mood through environmental design.
Tools used: OpenBrush (VR), Oculus Quest Headset
Process: I titled the project Inner Garden to reflect its calming, magical atmosphere. Using OpenBrush in VR, I created lush greenery, glowing crystals, and colorful flowers to contrast the dark environment. I began building the scene at a small scale to focus on detail, then expanded it to life-size for an immersive experience. The waterfall was made with motion brushes that mimic flowing water and bubbles, bringing the environment to life with movement and light.
Reflection: This project helped me understand how to build atmosphere and emotion through color and light. I also gained confidence using VR as a creative medium and learned how scale can drastically change the user's experience of space.

Project: Character Design - Lumina
Briefing: The assignment focused on creating a 3D character within OpenBrush that could exist inside a virtual environment. The goal was to design a companion that enhances the emotional and aesthetic experience of a space.
Tools Used: OpenBrush (VR), Oculus Quest Headset
Process: For this project, I designed Lumina, a glowing figure meant to accompany users within my previous Inner Garden environment. Lumina was created to symbolize comfort and peace, offering gentle presence and warmth inside the scene. I used soft, warm tones to convey calmness and placed the character on top of a rock in the corner of the garden, allowing it to overlook the waterfall. The glowing brushes and subtle sparkles help bring Lumina to life, giving the impression of light, movement, and serenity within the space.
Reflection: This project taught me how to integrate a character seamlessly into an existing environment while maintaining mood and harmony. It also deepened my understanding of using light and color to express emotion in 3D design.

Project: Virtual Theme Park - Fantasy Land
Briefing: This assignment focused on creating an immersive 3D environment using OpenBrush in virtual reality. The goal was to experiment with scale, lighting, and atmosphere to evoke emotion and mood through environmental design.
Tools Used: OpenBrush (VR), Oculus Quest Headset
Process: The first island is a magical garden, inspired by my earlier Inner Garden project but simplified with fewer details to emphasize atmosphere and lighting. The second island features a snow-themed scene, including a small ice rink with skaters, a snowboarding slope with moving figures, and a cozy cabin beside a large snow-covered tree. I also added falling snow particles and ambient lighting to enhance the feeling of winter serenity while maintaining the imaginative, floating-world concept.
Reflection: This project allowed me to bring together everything I learned throughout the course. Designing two contrasting environments-one warm and magical, and the other cool and wintery- helped me understand how lighting, color, and texture can shape emotion in virtual spaces. It also taught me how to balance creativity with spacial structure while building an interactive world that feels cohesive and imaginative.
